POLICY ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2005

Policy Accomplishments Local

  • Conducted policy and advocacy training to TOP students and tradeswomen who participate in CWIT's monthly job club
  • Facilitated a letter-writing campaign to help students and tradeswomen express their views and share their experiences with elected and state agency officials.

State

  • Drafted, built support for, and advanced model legislation to secure state funding for pre-apprenticeship training programs statewide.
  • Led the coalition effort to support the legislation through the Creating Opportunity in Construction Industry Taskforce (COCIT).
  • Expanded the network of support among policymakers and their participation in our activities.
  • Conducted training for Illinois Department of Employment Security and Apprenticeship Information Center staff to build their capacity to encourage and support women entering skilled trade apprenticeships.
  • Expanded participation in and work of the Statewide Nontraditional Leadership Team.

National

  • Helped to found the first Women's Committee of the Building Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.
