BUILDING A PIPELINE: JOB TRAINING
Chicago Women in Trades works diligently with local, state and national job training systems including the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Education-to-Careers (ETC) or School-to-Work, Welfare-to-Work, Perkins Vocational Training Programs, and other local and state job training initiatives to build a pipeline that will increase the high-wage nontraditional employment opportunities for women.
Local
- Increase the number of TANF recipients moving into high-wage, high-skilled jobs.
- Increase the number of women in manufacturing jobs.
- Provide technical assistance to employers around creating women friendly work environments.
State
- Increase the number of women and girls receiving nontraditional training through the work of the Illinois Workforce Investment Board and the Statewide Nontraditional Leadership Team.
- Research female participation in high-wage training in Illinois.
- Participate on statewide committees to promote an increase of nontraditional activities for women and girls.
National
- Explore National Litigation Strategies.
- Identify strategies to reinstate Gender Equity in Perkins Act and WIA Act.
- Develop national partnerships and maintain existing relationships.
- Strategize and build relationships with Congressional Women's Council, AFL-CIO, and others.
- Preserve and increase funding through Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) and identify other federal funding for nontraditional work of women.
